There is a reason Vestavia Hills calls itself "A Life Above" — and it is not just because it sits along the crest of Shades Mountain. It is because the people who live here genuinely feel like they have found something special. The kind of community where the schools are exceptional, the neighborhoods are beautiful, and the roots run deep.

The story of Vestavia Hills begins with a man who fell in love with Rome. Former Birmingham mayor George Ward purchased 20 acres of wooded property on the summit of Shades Mountain and built a mansion patterned after the circular Temple of Vesta in Rome  — and in doing so, he set the tone for everything that came after. Vestavia Hills has always been a place built by people with vision and pride in where they live. That spirit never left.

Today, Vestavia Hills has a population of nearly 40,000 and is located along U.S. 31, I-65, and U.S. 280  — meaning you are never far from anywhere you need to be. But what draws people here and keeps them here is the quality of life that is genuinely hard to replicate.

Vestavia Hills City Schools is home to more than 7,000 students across five elementary schools, two middle schools, one freshman campus, and one high school — all under one mission: Learning Without Limits.  The high quality of the school system has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal, and Vestavia Hills High School is known for the success of its math and debate teams, which have each won several national competitions.

When the school day ends, the city truly comes alive. Wald Park recently completed a full renovation that added pickleball and tennis courts, a dog park, a trail system, an aquatic complex, athletic fields, and playgrounds — and a pedestrian bridge connecting it to the beloved Library in the Forest is in the works. The city offers recreational programs for children and adults including baseball, softball, wrestling, lacrosse, cheerleading, tennis, swimming, and a Miracle League Field. There is truly something for everyone.

Then there is the shopping and dining. The Summit Shopping Center in Cahaba Heights — now part of Vestavia Hills — sits atop a hill and is home to high fashion, electronics, and popular eateries like the Cheesecake Factory, Chuy's, and more.  The dining scene runs from modern American cuisine at Bistro V to casual favorites, local coffee shops, and bakeries that feel like they were made for lazy weekend mornings

As you drive through Vestavia, you will notice very different home styles throughout the city — mid-century modern, ranch, A-frame, upscale luxury homes, and sprawling mansions — giving every buyer something to fall in love with regardless of their taste or budget.
